 8th Army Air Force

The 8th Air Force was first constituted as the VIII Bomber Command on January 19, 1942. It began air offensive operations as the Eighth AF 17 Aug 1942. Based in England, B-24 and B-17 heavy bombers attacked strategic targets throughout the European continent.
